Together Tuesday: Six Important Ways To Support Your Missionary

We posted this series a few months ago. It has been mentioned often during Timothy’s home visit so we decided to repost it. We invite you to to explore how to send your missionaries well.

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

-Romans 10:13-15 NIV

Realistically not every believer is able to cross cultural or geographical boundaries to bring good news. But every believer can be involved in the process of sending those who can go. In Romans 10 we find two complementary roles: those who go; and those who send. Both roles are necessary to advance God’s great commission. Today’s post explores the six types of support every missionary needs.

Encouragement

“Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing”

-1 Thes. 5:11

You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers with the truth.

-3 John 6-8

Logistical Support

Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you.

-1 Thes 3:1

When I was with you and was in need, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia fully supplied my needs. I kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so.

2 Corinthians 11:9

Where God lays on our heart we must go. If we cannot go we must give!

In the book of Esther we read:

Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go, assemble all the Jews who are found in Susa and fast in my behalf. Don’t eat and don’t drink for three days, night or day. My female attendants and I will also fast in the same way. Afterward I will go to the king, even though it violates the law. If I perish, I perish!”

Esther 4:15-16

Esther had a very important mission so she asked for God’s people to fast on her behalf. Every Christian has has a very important mission, the great commission! The importance of our commission demands serious fasting and prayer.
