The Distinctive Mark

“The concern for world evangelization is not something tacked on to a man’s personal Christianity, which he may take or leave as he chooses; it is rooted indefeasibly in the character of the God who has come to us in Christ Jesus. Thus it can never be the province of a few enthusiasts, a sideline or a specialty of those who happen to have a bent that way. It is the distinctive mark of being a Christian.”

-Dr. James S. Stewart

To be counted as a follower of Jesus means that we must follow Him in every way.

Jesus once called out to the crowd and said: “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny  himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.” It is clear that we who claim the Name of Christ for salvation must also claim His mission. The mission of Christ always involves a passion for the lost that ends in their redemption, it always requires the cross!

Our God is intrinsically a Missionary. His very character is clearly seen In John’s Gospel: “For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him.”

May we exude the very character of our God. May we daily pick up our cross and follow Christ in His mission to redeem the lost and dying world.
