The early church certainly had two distinguishing marks that defined it: poverty and power. Poverty, in the sense of being humble and dependent on God for all their needs. Power, in the sense of relying on the Holy Spirit to do God’s work in them and through them.

As Christians, we must strive to embody these characteristics in our lives. Regardless of the magnitude of the blessings God has given us, we must use our resources wisely, trusting God to provide for us. We must be humble and remember that we are nothing without Him. We must seek to do His will with the power of the Holy Spirit living in us.

May we be reminded of the early church and the power and poverty that characterized it. May we seek to emulate it in our own lives, relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to live for Him. Let us strive to be humble and dependent on Him for all our needs. May we seek His will and trust Him to provide for us. May we be encouraged to live a life of poverty and power in the name of Jesus. He has given us all we need to live for Him in this world. May we be a light to the world around us, reflecting freedom from mammon’s control and expressing the power of Christ in our lives.
