The great commission says to go, make disciples and baptize. That is just what the Zabala church in Ecuador is doing! In December Pastors Martha and Rodrigo baptized several new believers in a river near Puerto Quito.
Baptisms are best held in public when possible. It is often the first act of evangelism in which the new believer participates. This baptism had a few curious onlookers in addition to Church and family members. Each believer is baptized by immersion, symbolizing death and resurrection. When the believer is laid under the water it signifies their death to sin and self, when they are raised up from under the water it signifies new life, a life lived in the death and resurrection of Jesus. See Galatians 2:20.It is a joyous and serious time for the believers and their families.
Friends, it is an honor to serve Christ in Ecuador alongside these and many other wonderful children of God!
Timothy and Angelita Downing are your missionaries in Ecuador. After serving Christ in pastoral ministry for 15 years they followed God's calling into missionary service.
