The whisper of divine invitation
In the hushed corridors of our souls, where the clamor of the world fades into a distant echo, there often comes a moment when we hear it – a whisper so soft yet so profound that it seems to reverberate through the very foundations of our being. This, dear friend, is the divine invitation, a gentle nudge from the Creator of the universe, calling us to step beyond the veil of our comfortable existence and into the vast, uncharted territories of His grand design.
Have you felt it? That inexplicable stirring in your heart when you hear of distant lands and unfamiliar faces? That subtle disquiet that settles upon you as you ponder the great commission given by our Lord Jesus Christ: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19, ESV). This is no mere suggestion, but a divine mandate, whispered into the depths of every believer’s soul.
Yet, how often do we, in our human frailty, choose to muffle this celestial call? We wrap ourselves in the cocoon of our daily routines, our familiar surroundings, our predictable lives. We tell ourselves that missions are for the specially called, the extraordinarily brave, the impossibly holy. But in doing so, do we not risk missing out on the adventure of a lifetime – nay, the adventure of an eternity?
Unraveling the tapestry of global missions
As we begin to heed this whispered invitation, we find ourselves standing before a vast and intricate tapestry – the grand narrative of global missions. It is a masterpiece woven by the Master Craftsman Himself, each thread a life dedicated to His service, each color a culture touched by His love, each pattern a story of transformation and redemption.
From the earliest disciples who ventured beyond the familiar streets of Jerusalem to the ends of the known world, to the modern-day missionaries who brave hostile territories and cultural barriers, this tapestry tells a story of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering faith. It is a testament to the words of the prophet Isaiah: “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns'” (Isaiah 52:7, ESV).
As we stand before this magnificent work, we might feel small, insignificant. We might question what role we could possibly play in such a grand design. But remember, dear friend, that every great tapestry is made up of countless individual threads. Each one, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, contributes to the overall beauty and integrity of the whole.
The reader’s role in the grand narrative of God’s kingdom
And so we come to you, dear reader. You, who have picked up this book, who have felt that stirring in your soul, who have dared to peek beyond the veil of your everyday existence. What is your role in this grand narrative?
Perhaps you have been faithfully supporting a missionary for years, sending funds and prayers from the comfort of your home. This is noble and necessary work, for as the Apostle Paul reminds us, “And how are they to preach unless they are sent?” (Romans 10:15, ESV). Your support has been the wind beneath the wings of those who have gone forth.
But could it be that the Master Weaver is now calling you to a new role? Could it be that He is inviting you to step out from behind the veil, to move from being a distant supporter to an active participant in the mission field?
The journey we are about to embark upon is not for the faint of heart. It will challenge your preconceptions, stretch your faith, and quite possibly turn your world upside down. But oh, the vistas of grace it will open before your eyes! The depths of God’s love it will reveal! The breadth of His kingdom it will allow you to glimpse!
As we delve deeper into this exploration of mission visitation, let us keep in mind the words of the apostle Paul: “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known” (1 Corinthians 13:12, ESV). This journey beyond the veil is an invitation to see more clearly, to know more fully, to participate more deeply in the work of God’s kingdom.
So, dear reader, are you ready? Are you willing to heed the whisper, to examine your role in the tapestry, to step beyond the veil? The journey awaits, and with it, the adventure of a lifetime.
