We are called to be holy as God is holy (1 Peter 1:16). We are saved from sin today, and every band is riven. We are no longer bound by sin, but are free to live a life of holiness.

The Bible tells us that we are to “put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:22-24).

We are to put off our old ways and put on the new self, created in the likeness of God. We are called to live a life of holiness, free from sin. We are to be obedient to God’s commands and to live a life of righteousness.

We are to be holy in our thoughts, words, and actions. We are to be careful to not let sin creep into our lives. We are to be mindful of our thoughts and words, and to guard our hearts against temptation. We are to be careful to not let our sinful desires lead us astray.

We are to be holy in our relationships. We are to be careful to not let our relationships become a source of temptation or an avenue of sin. We are to be careful to not let our relationships lead us away from God. We are to be careful to not let our relationships become a source of sin.

We are to be holy in our service to God. We are to be careful to not let our service become a source of pride or a way to gain recognition. We are to be careful to not let our service become a way to gain power or control. We are to be careful to not let our service become a way to gain wealth or material possessions.

Let us strive to live a life of holiness, free from sin, and obedient to God’s commands which are plainly written in the Scripture. Let us put off our old ways and put on the new self, created in the likeness of God. Let us live a life of holiness, pleasing to God.

Heavenly Father, in this day when the spirit of the age is creeping into the church we pray that we would be encouraged to live lives of holiness, free from sin. May we never be caught affirming our own sin or other people’s sin. In the most powerful name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Love, The Downing Family
