Farm Project Phase One Deeper Look

As we embark upon the first phase of our retreat center and farm development, we find ourselves reflecting on the profound significance of this undertaking. In an age where the clamor of modernity often drowns out the still, small voice of God, the creation of a dedicated space for spiritual renewal and discipleship stands as a beacon of hope amidst the tumult.

The construction of ten “Bunky” cabins, humble yet welcoming, will provide a sanctuary for weary souls seeking respite from the world’s demands. Like the monastic cells of old, these simple lodgings will offer a place of solitude and contemplation, where guests can quiet their hearts and attune themselves to the whispers of the Divine.

Moreover, the erection of a dedicated meeting and learning structure speaks to the vital importance of education in the life of faith. As the great Christian apologist C.S. Lewis once remarked, “The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts.” By providing a space for theological instruction and spiritual formation, we aim to cultivate an oasis of truth in a world parched by relativism and secularism.

Yet, as Alexis de Tocqueville astutely observed, the strength of a society lies not merely in its institutions, but in the robust associational life that binds its members together. Thus, the creation of communal areas—a multi-purpose shelter for gatherings and a shower house with sanitary facilities—will foster the spirit of fellowship and community that is so essential to the Christian life. In an era of increasing isolation and individualism, these shared spaces will stand as a testament to the enduring power of Christian love and unity.

Finally, the renovation of the existing small house into a fully-equipped camp kitchen serves as a poignant metaphor for the transformative power of faith. Just as this humble structure will be repurposed to nourish the bodies of our guests, so too will this retreat center serve to nourish their souls, offering sustenance for the journey of discipleship.

As we commence this initial phase, focusing on the establishment of essential infrastructure, let us not lose sight of the ultimate purpose behind our efforts. In a world that often seems to be teetering on the brink of moral and spiritual collapse, the creation of this retreat center and farm represents a small but significant step towards the restoration of a Christian vision of the good life—a life centered on the pursuit of holiness, the cultivation of virtue, and the service of others.

May God grant us the wisdom, the courage, and the perseverance to see this project through to completion, and may it stand as a testament to His faithfulness for generations to come. As the Psalmist declares, “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts” (Psalm 145:4). Let us be that generation, leaving a legacy of faith that will inspire and guide those who come after us.
