Devotion 1: Called to Serve Reque

Dearly beloved in Christ, let us turn our hearts to the words of the prophet Isaiah, who, when confronted with the very presence of the Almighty, heard the Lord’s voice asking, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” (Isaiah 6:8). In that moment of divine revelation, Isaiah’s response echoed through the ages: “Here am I. Send me!”

Just as Isaiah was called to be a messenger of God’s truth, so too are we, as a team, summoned to the sacred mission of serving in Reque. The Lord has handpicked each one of us to be His hands and feet at the Roma Lee Courvisier School, where precious children are nurtured in the admonition of Christ, that they may grow to become mighty leaders in His eternal Kingdom.

As we embark on this mission path, let us remember that every task we undertake—be it the construction of buildings, the teaching of Vacation Bible School, or the heartfelt outreach to the community—is a divine opportunity to share the love of Christ in tangible ways. Our labors are not mere acts of service, but a sacred response to the call of God upon our lives.

In this moment, I invite you to reflect deeply upon your personal call to this mission trip. Ask yourself, how can the specific tasks entrusted to me—whether hammering nails, leading songs, or sharing a testimony—reflect the very heart of God for the children and families of Reque? Let us approach each responsibility with reverence, knowing that we are partaking in the holy work of sowing seeds of faith that will bear eternal fruit.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we come before You with humility and gratitude, thanking You for the sacred calling You have placed upon our lives to serve in Reque. Guide our hands as we labor in construction, that each building may stand as a testament to Your faithfulness. Direct our words as we teach in Vacation Bible School, that each lesson may point these precious children to the truth of Your Word. And above all, fill our hearts with Your love as we reach out to the community, that we may be living epistles of Your grace. Bless the Roma Lee Courvisier School, Lord, as it tirelessly labors to plant seeds of faith in the lives of these young ones. May the work that is done here echo through eternity, for Your glory alone. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and King, we pray. Amen.

Blessings, the Downing family
