Devotion 10: Courage for Reque’s Witness

Beloved in Christ, let us draw strength from the words spoken to Joshua, the faithful servant of the Lord: “Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9). These words, echoing through the ages, find new life in our hearts as we prepare to witness to the community of Reque.

It is natural, in our human frailty, to feel trepidation at the thought of sharing our faith. The fear of rejection, of being misunderstood or even ridiculed, can weigh heavily upon our spirits. Yet, we need only look to the shining example of the Roma Lee Courvisier School, whose bold faith in the face of adversity inspires us to trust in the abiding presence of our God.

As we step out into the streets of Reque, let us fall to our knees in prayer, asking the Lord to fill us with a holy courage that surpasses our own strength. Let us remember that it is not we who speak, but the Spirit of our Father speaking through us (Matthew 10:20). With this assurance, we can walk confidently, knowing that the Lord goes before us and stands beside us.

As we minister to the students and staff of the Roma Lee Courvisier School, let us encourage them to be bold for Christ, to let their light shine before others, that they may see their good works and give glory to our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16). Let us remind them that they are not alone in their witness, but are part of a great cloud of witnesses, stretching back through the ages and across the world.

Let us pray: O Lord, our Rock and our Redeemer, we come before You, asking for a measure of Your courage as we witness to the people of Reque. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, that our words may be infused with Your wisdom and our actions with Your love. Strengthen the Roma Lee Courvisier School to stand as a reflection of Your light in the community, drawing all who see it to the foot of the cross. In the name of Jesus, our perfect example of courage, we pray. Amen.

A group of six people, including four children and two adults, are gathered around a table with a cake, smiling. The setting appears to be a lively restaurant with other patrons in the background.
Blessings, the Downing family
