In a world that often glorifies the ephemeral and the superficial, we as Christians are called to leave a lasting impact—a legacy that transcends generations and points others to the eternal truths of our faith. This truth was powerfully illustrated to me during a recent mission trip to Perú, where our Ecuadorian group had the privilege of working alongside a Peruvian brother named Jose.

As our time in Perú drew to a close, Jose and I discovered a remarkable connection: he had known my father, Cordell Downing, from dad’s previous missionary work in the region. On the final day of our trip, Jose brought his Bible to show me, revealing that it was a gift from my father some 20 years ago. This simple act spoke volumes about my dad’s deep care for and investment in the people he served on the mission field.

The Bible is replete with examples of godly men and women who left enduring legacies of faith. In Psalm 78:4, we read, “We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done” (ESV). This passage underscores the importance of passing down our spiritual heritage, ensuring that the torch of faith is carried forward by those who come after us.

My father’s gift to Jose not only blessed this dear brother over the years but also extended its impact to Cordell’s own son and grandchildren. It served as a tangible reminder of the ripple effect that our actions can have, even across generations and continents. As C.S. Lewis wisely noted, “The work of a Beethoven, and the work of a charwoman, become spiritual on precisely the same condition, that of being offered to God, of being done humbly ‘as to the Lord’.”

In light of this truth, we must ask ourselves: What actions, whether small or significant, are we taking today that will leave a lasting Christian legacy for our children and their children? It may be the consistent example of a life lived in devotion to Christ, the sharing of our testimonies and spiritual wisdom, or the sacrificial giving of our time and resources to advance God’s Kingdom. Whatever form it takes, let us commit to building a legacy that will endure long after we have gone to our eternal reward, pointing future generations to the matchless grace and glory of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Farm Update

In the grand tapestry of God’s divine plan, we often find ourselves waiting, wondering, and praying for His perfect timing to unfold. Today, I am overjoyed to share with you the good news that our Farm project, a vision born from the heart of God and nurtured through the faithful prayers and support of our community of ministry partners, is now moving forward with renewed vigor and purpose.

As the psalmist declares in Psalm 37:7, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him,” we have witnessed the truth of these words firsthand. The Government, in its due course, has finally produced the necessary papers that the seller required to transfer the property to our stewardship. This breakthrough, though long-awaited, serves as a poignant reminder that God’s timing is always perfect, even when our human understanding is limited.

Moreover, I am humbled and grateful to report that the down payment for the land, a sum that seemed daunting mere months ago, has been raised through the generous contributions of our faithful partners. This provision, in the face of economic uncertainty and global upheaval, stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of God’s people to His work in Ecuador and beyond.

With the legal documents now firmly in hand, we believe the time has come to begin earnestly promoting the vision that God has so graciously entrusted to us for the use of this land. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing, in greater detail, the plans and purposes that God has revealed to us concerning this precious resource. As C.S. Lewis astutely observed, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream,” and it is our fervent prayer that this project will be a catalyst for spiritual renewal, transformation, and Kingdom advancement in our beloved nation.

As we embark on this new chapter of our ministry’s story, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support, sacrificial giving, and faithful intercession. Your partnership in this endeavor is a living embodiment of Paul’s exhortation in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Together, we are forging a legacy of faith, hope, and love that will endure long after our earthly labors have ceased, as we surrender this Farm project into God’s loving hands and trust Him to establish the work of our hands for His everlasting glory.

Blessings,

Timothy
